The Garden of Delight

This award winning musical play for children and families is being revived from its 2018 Festival Fringe run, when it received the Primary Times Children’s Choice Award.

Extra tickets have been released via the Edfringe website.

With live music and singing. In the lovely Dr Neil’s Garden at  Duddingston Kirk Manse Gardens.

Please note: the Gardens cannot be access by car via Holyrood Park. Allow extra time to go via other routes.

COVID 19 SAFETY NOTICE

• There will be a Pre-show announcement reminding audiences of social distancing.
• Hand sanitiser will be available at the ticket tent.
• As it is an outdoor promenade performance chairs are only used at the gathering point. These will be sanitised between performances.
• There will be two ushers on duty to regulate the audience movement around the site.
• We will put out notice boards along the walkway and in acting areas to remind about social distancing.
• Toilets will be regularly cleaned and sanitised.
• Number of audience is restricted to 20.
• We will encourage E-ticketing

Though said to be suitable for four to 10-year-olds, if you want a magical experience away from the crowds of Edinburgh town, you couldn’t do much better than see this show.

Original music and songs, and audience participation.

This play for children has a very simple environmental message.  We must look after, and protect the world we live in.

Journey back in time with ‘Tumshie’ the jester and join the magical creatures who inhabit the beautiful land of Alban.    

But, there are also evil, and very stupid creatures living there who hate all things in nature, who don’t care if the water is contaminated or the trees are dying,  and want to destroy it forever!  

As the audience walk around the venue – the stunning Dr. Neil’s Garden, they sing songs, and find clues on their quest to save the planet from destruction.

Dress for the weather and wear stout shoes to cope with long grass in places.

NOTE: Some areas are not suitable for push-chairs, baby buggies or wheelchairs

Primary Times – 
The cast is skilled at telling the story, in particular the storyteller/ narrator is excellent, entertaining the audience while we waited for the show to begin, and encouraging everyone to join in with the travelling song as we made our way around the Gardens. The show is recommended for ages 4-10 and I would say this is accurate, my daughter is 9 and really enjoyed it, and the younger audience members were equally engaged.

Child’s Review
The venue is not as central as many Fringe venues but well worth the trip: the Gardens are beautiful and really add to the whole experience. If you have time before or after there is a lovely cafe on site, and there is plenty of free parking in the car park. Recommended if you have children in this age range!
