    Playing Scotland’s Story

    10. ROBERT MCLELLAN_0Theatre Alba helped a packed audience at the Netherbow to celebrate the work of Scottish playwright Robert McLellan at the launch of a collection of his plays and poems, entitled ” Playing Scotland’s Story” published by Luath Press.

As the Scots language of McLellan’s native Lanarkshire figures largely in his writing, it is no surprise that Theatre Alba have produced his work in the past.

His play “The Carlin Moth” was performed by Theatre Alba in 1990 at various venues in Scotland including the Theatre Workshop Edinburgh and Paisley Arts Centre.

On the 12 April at the Scottish Storytelling Centre the volume of collected works was introduced and discussed by a panel of notable writers and supporters, including an overview of McLellan’s achievement by novelist James Robertson.

An open panel discussion followed, with the people who brought this landmark book into being – Heather Gough of Arran  Theatre  and Arts  Trust, Colin Donati (editor), Douglas Gifford and Donald Campbell.

Richard Cherns presented Heather Gough with an informal recording of the music he composed for ” The Carlin Moth”, performed at the Netherbow, Scottish Storytelling Centre in 2002 .

There was a short performed reading of poetry from the new anthology by members of Theatre Alba. See our Facebook Page for event photos.
