The Seagull
written by Anton Chekhov.
Adapted by Jo Clifford
This then, is arguably one of the very greatest plays ever written by the Russian Master.
Described as a comedy, it tells of various stories of the gentry at the turn of last century most especially that of a young and beautiful girl trapped by an ageing (and rather dull) writer.
She falls for his charms and suffers the consequences. Chekhov's greatest achievement is probably to reveal the comedy in their pathetic attempts to guard themselves against their greatest enemy - time.
